Mobilephones.co.uk sells for £91.5k

Tonight was my first voyeuristic glance at an Sedo auction, okay it was more doing a lot of tapping on F5 to watch it unfurl in the later stages and thanks to one @chrisclarkson and his tweet earlier in the day about the impending sale of mobilephones.co.uk i was intrigued.

I know the value of domains varies greatly and it is dependant on a lot of factors, as an seo i recommend a good keyword rich domain name as it does bring benefits to your ranking but that`s sales speak for another day.

Obviously there is a huge benefit to grabbing a keyword rich domain name & even more so if it is an aged one as in this case it`s been kicking about since 2001, that`s 9 years of pure Google sat in the cellar fruition if you are an advocate of algorithm fed ageism. 2 boxes ticked.

The hook for me as the later stages wore on was when those that i dare not speak of entered the fray, ok i dare speak, it was @MrScottJones, @glasgowdotcom and @ClarkeDuncan. Now to me this was kind of new, i watched with passing interest & equal amounts of jealousy when retweet.com sold for $250k and Todd Friesen a few days earlier had recounted his woes about not grabbing an opportunity of buying a domain which turned into gold.

You looking for a moral to buying a domain name?

From my point of view i tend to grab what i think may develop into an attractive market, or if you are lucky enough to have a fantastic marketing manager they will have recommended a domain to go after. Ageing like a fine wine, some will not be renewed some will see a 6 figure resell day *these are few and far between).

What was the fascinating thing about mobilephones.co.uk?

Well firstly it had sat parked for an eon, secondly it had 0 G links and 3 Y! links that was not the scary part, it had no, yes zero content. you catching me up on the domain name importance thing yet?

Ok, enough about domain name importance.

You will have obviously gathered by now that i am no expert in domain name buying (& selling). So who would i recommend? Well by the power of twitter i give you @MarkDaoust
of Internet Business Brokers this bloke comes with so many ticks against his name that the pencil lead ran out before i had finished.
